Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Working Groups

One mile of surface transportation takes you one mile, whereas one mile of aviation land can take you anywhere. Emerging aviation markets are working to safely move people and cargo between places previously not served or underserved by aviation. To accelerate the development of safe, high-volume AAM flight operations to achieve this vision, a broad community is involved in the Advanced Air Mobility Ecosystem working groups that address Aircraft, Airspace, Community Integration, and Crosscutting topics on a monthly basis. Wildland Fire Initiatives

Wildland fires are becoming increasingly severe and costly in terms of acreage burned, property damage, and most importantly, lives lost. NASA’ Science Mission Directorate, Space Technology Mission Directorate, and Aeronautics Mission Directorate have formed an assessment team to better understand wildland fire management community needs and how NASA can best contribute. We are gathering this information through workshops, and we are forming a new working group to address relief through aviation. See current reports on 2021 Wildfire Management Workshop and Ensuring System-wide Safety During Wildland Firefighting Operations.

Sky for All

Imagine what the future holds. The Sky for All vision seeks to enable future airspace diversity and sustainability by defining the requirements to build an air transportation system of the future. Join the discussion.

Autonomy

NARI is fostering research that supports an increasingly autonomous and collaborative air traffic management future. Current airspace operations are human-centric, and capacity is limited by the human workload. Efforts are currently looking at increasing efficiencies and enhancing access to all relevant information to users of the national airspace system. International Forum for Aviation Research (IFAR)

NARI is the gateway for IFAR (International Forum for Aviation Research) virtual exchange events that connect 26 global organizations and facilitates networking and partnerships to address global aviation technical challenges, especially among young career researchers. View the recording, "Igniting Your Future by Maximizing Your Early Career," from the IFAR Virtual Exchange speaker series.

Education

NARI posts student internship opportunities through the NASA Office of STEM Engagement on https://intern.nasa.gov/. Deadlines to apply for Summer 2023 session is March 1, 2023.
