Information
Many countries such as the United States, Australia, Canada, and Brazil have seen increased wildfires in the past few years. These fires have caused massive economic damage, loss of life, loss of property, environmental impact, and ecosystem disturbance. This alarming trend has made it urgent to recognize how wildfires could be better predicted, mitigated, and managed to reduce their impact.
The purpose of this request for information (RFI) is to gain insights from the stakeholder community regarding potentially relevant technologies and capabilities so that the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) may make informed decisions regarding potential contributions to wildfire solutions. NASA is seeking information from public, private, and academic organizations to determine wildfire management needs that may help map research, development, testing, and technology transfers to increase effectiveness of planning, prediction, detection, tracking, suppression, and remediation efforts related to wildfire.
NASA seeks to accomplish the following goals:
- Identify community technology needs to support their management of wildfires
- Map NASA technology investments and capabilities to community needs
- Identify areas where NASA, in collaboration with others, can contribute to better planning, prediction, mitigation, and remediation of wildfires and their impact.
NASA welcomes the wildfire community to respond to this notice through the response form below to provide information and viewpoints on wildfire management needs.
