Nancy Leveson is Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics and also Professor of Engineering Systems at MIT. Prof. Leveson conducts research on all aspects of system safety including design, operations, management, and social aspects. Dr. Leveson is an elected member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE). She has published over 200 research papers and is author of two books, Safeware: System Safety and Computers, published by Addison-Wesley in 1995 and recently translated into Japanese in 2009 and Engineering a Safer World: Applying Systems Thinking to Safety published by MIT Press in 2012. She served on the NASA Aerospace Safety Advisor Panel and was a consultant to the Columbia Accident Investigation Board and an expert advisor to the Presidential Oil Spill Commission.
