Lee Kohlman’s research has focused on evaluation and development of mechanical test methods and identification of damage mechanisms for large architecture braided and textile composites. Two years of support for this work were provided under NASA’s GSRP program prior to his acceptance in NASA’s Co-Op program. As of May 2012, he was converted to a permanent NASA civil servant. He also has experience with electrospinning methods and control of processing characteristics as a result of research performed while working toward his undergraduate degree in Physics at The University of Akron. He has also successfully completed a preliminary study on the feasibility of direct electrospun nanofiber coating of continuous fiber material under a GRC CIF Fast Track project and is pursuing a patent on the process.
