2015 LEARN Phase I Awards Announced

NASA Aeronautics  Oversight Committee consisting of senior Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD) officials met and selected four Leading Edge Aeronautics Research for NASA (LEARN) proposals to proceed to the procurement phase. The principal investigators and project titles are:

  • Matthias Ihme (Stanford University) - Feasibility Study of Using Matrix-Stabilized Combustion Technologies to Enable Ultra-low Emission Combustion in Aviation Gas Turbines
  • Kiruba Haran (University of Illinois) - Concept for Order-of-Magnitude Increase in Electrical Machine Power Density
  • Michael Kerho (Rolling Hills Research Corp) - Design, Analysis, and Evaluation of a Novel Propulsive Wing Concept
  • Thomas Reynolds (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) - Big Aviation Data Mining for Robust, Ultra-Efficient Air Transportation
